4 new reservoirs will be built in Kazakhstan with the support of the Islamic Development Bank

As part of the II meeting of the Coordinating Council of partners on water sector development, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov met with Ali Khan, Acting Head of the Regional Representative Office of the Islamic Development Bank in Kazakhstan, and Katarzhina Vavernia, the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan. The project includes construction of 4 new reservoirs and reconstruction of 4 existing reservoirs, reconstruction and major repair of 115 channels, including the project on replenishment of the Astana reservoir. Works will be carried out in Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan, West Kazakhstan, Zhetysu regions and Astana city.
Also, it is planned to allocate a grant from the Islamic Development Bank to the Kazakh Water Management Scientific Research Institute for the study of water and river basins of the country, to evaluate the introduction of early response systems for the information and analysis center of water resources, and to provide technical equipment to the enterprise "Kazsushar". they are being coordinated with other state bodies.
"A great deal of work has been done within the framework of the Coordination Council in a short period of time. Investments of the Islamic Development Bank will help to improve the water infrastructure of Kazakhstan. At the same time, we intend to continue active cooperation with the United Nations Development Program to attract new partners to the water sector development projects of the country," - noted Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
