Kazakhstan started implementing strategic initiatives aimed at significantly strengthening the gas industry. Vice Minister of Energy Alibek Zhamauov "Energy Trends: Gas & At the Petrochemicals" international conference, he reported on concrete steps to build four new gas processing plants (GZP), expand main infrastructure and develop oil and gas chemistry.

These measures are part of a comprehensive strategy designed to ensure the country's energy security, meet domestic gas demand, and lay the foundation for a high-tech consumer gas-chemical industry.

According to the vice-minister, raw gas production is growing: 59 in 2024 It is expected to increase from billion cubic meters to 62.8 billion cubic meters in 2025. This will be facilitated by the stable operation of large deposits such as Tengiz, Karashiganak, Kashagan and the launch of new deposits such as Rozhkovskoe, Anabay and Urihtau.

"Our goal is to increase gas production to 74 billion cubic meters by 2030. But the main task is to process gas in the country as efficiently as possible, continuously supply the population and industry, as well as to form a reliable raw material base for the gas-chemical industry," noted Vice Minister of Energy Alibek Zhamauov.

In 2024, 79% of commercial gas produced was directed to the domestic market, which shows that priority will be given to supplying domestic consumers.

In the near future, it is planned to build four new GÖZ: period (total capacity 3.5 billion m³/year), the new KazGOZ in Karachaganak (4 billion m³/year) and Zhanaozen (0.9 billion m³/year).

Special attention is also paid to the development of oil and gas chemistry. Currently, large-scale projects are being developed for the production of alkylate and polypropylene based on urea, ammonia, methanol, as well as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). These projects make it possible to attract large-scale investments and create thousands of new jobs.

"Development of the gas industry is a complex task. The construction of gas pipelines and gas pipelines includes the gasification of settlements and the launch of new industries in oil and gas chemistry," said Alibek Zhamauov.

According to him, all these directions are reflected in the comprehensive plan for the development of the gas industry for 2025-2029. The implementation of the plan will make it possible to attract more than 25 billion US dollars of investment to the industry and create thousands of new jobs by 2029, which will make a significant contribution to the diversification of the country's economy.

In addition, the development of the gas transportation system will continue. The plan envisages the construction of the second line of the main gas pipeline "Beineu - Bozoi - Shymkent", the gas pipelines "Aktobe - Kostanay" and "Taldikorgan - Usharal". Also, gasification of regions will continue (current level - 62.4%). The Ministry is actively working on improving legislation in the gas sector.
