In accordance with the instructions of the Head of State, the Anti-Corruption Agency continues its efforts to uphold the rule of law and order in society, as well as to suppress cases of corruption.

On March 31, the Ekibastuz City Court of Pavlodar Region delivered a verdict against the Head of the Emergency Situations Department of Ekibastuz D. Kukonev, his deputy Zh. Maimanov and businessman B. Zhumashev.
D. Kukonev and Zh. Maimanov were found guilty of repeatedly accepting bribes totaling KZT 7.4 mln from Zhumashev in exchange for awarding service contracts to his private fire safety company.

By the court’s verdict, D. Kukonev was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment, while Zh. Maimanov and B. Zhumashev were each sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.

They were also permanently banned from holding positions in public service and the quasi-public sector.

In addition, D. Kukonev was stripped of his special rank of “Colonel of Civil Defense,” and Zh. Maimanov of his rank of “Major of Civil Defense.”

The court ruling has not yet entered into legal force.

In accordance with subparagraph 1 of paragraph 3 of Article 77 of the Constitution and part 1 of Article 19 of the Criminal Procedure Code, every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
