RCM is the fourth most common type of cancer in women in the world. In Kazakhstan, the statistics are even more depressing - CC is the second most common type of malignant tumor in women - after breast cancer

The main cause of CC is HPV infection.

Every year, more than 600,000 new cases of cervical cancer (CC) are diagnosed in the world and more than 300,000 women die from this disease. In Kazakhstan, more than 1,900 new cases of CC are registered per year and more than 600 women die annually. Over the past 20 years, the incidence of CC in our country has increased by 26%

Cervical Cancer Prognosis and Risks

By 2030, WHO predicts a further increase in cervical cancer incidence (700,000 cases) and mortality (400,000 deaths). About 90% of deaths occur in developing countries.

In Kazakhstan, the peak of disease detection occurs between the ages of 45 and 54. Every day, 5 new cases of cervical cancer are registered in the country. About 600 Kazakhstani women die from cervical cancer every year.

According to KAZNIIOIR, in 2022, 28 cases of cervical cancer were registered in pregnant women. Subsequently, some patients had urgent births, as well as 5 abortions for medical reasons and 2 spontaneous abortions.

Important: Women living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have a 6-fold higher risk of developing cervical cancer.

How can you protect yourself and your loved ones from cervical cancer?

Oncogenic HPV types can cause pathological changes that lead to the development of cervical cancer after 15-20 years.

Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and treatment is started immediately. That is why a separate screening examination is carried out in Kazakhstan for women aged 30 to 70 years.

Every four years, women from the screening group must take a Pap test (Papanicolaou smear) to detect possible malignant neoplasms in the cervix.

In addition to screening, more than 100 countries use preventive measures in the form of HPV vaccination. The experience of the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Sweden and other countries shows a decrease in the incidence of cervical cancer after the introduction of vaccination.
