Geneva, April 14, 2025 – In Geneva, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization Mr. Kairat Torebayev paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization Mr. Daren Tang.

During the meeting, the Parties discussed the current and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, including the launch of Kazakhstan’s National Innovation Strategy supported by WIPO, the development of educational initiatives and Kazakhstan’s participation in international projects in the field of intellectual property.

Permanent Representative emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to strengthening its position in the Global Innovation Index and expressed interest in opening a WIPO office in Kazakhstan — the first in Central Asia.

As part of the courtesy visit, the instrument of ratification for the Republic of Kazakhstan’s accession to the Marrakesh Treaty was officially handed over, marking an important step in ensuring the rights of persons with visual impairments to access published works.

Special attention was also given to the discussion of WIPO General Director’s participation in the upcoming Astana International Forum, where a dedicated panel session on intellectual property in the field of digital technologies and creative industries will be held.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both Parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding and deepening cooperation between Kazakhstan and WIPO.
