Karaganda Medical University has become a platform for the international forum "Research and Innovation" in the field of biomedicine, dedicated to the Day of Science. It brought together scientists from France, China, the Netherlands, as well as leading Kazakhstani universities.
— The Forum is not just a conference, but a platform for forming new scientific ties and developing joint projects. As well as the opportunity to compare scientific hours and learn from the best foreign experience," said Ermek Turgunov, Vice Rector for Scientific and Clinical Work at KMU. — We see how biomedicine is developing rapidly, and we try to keep up with the times. Such meetings are an investment in the health of future generations.
Karaganda Medical University has been training masters in biomedicine for several years. According to Ermek Turgunov, one of the two collective use laboratories in the country is located here. It is currently being upgraded — by 2026 it is planned to bring the laboratory to the world level.
— We look inside the body to understand how processes work, both normal and pathological. Without this, it is impossible to develop effective medicines. It is also important to understand who is doing this in other countries and how. The exchange of experience is key here," says Dmitry Klyuev, Director of the Institute of Life Sciences at Karaganda Medical University.
The Forum has become an important event for young scientists. A separate section was dedicated to them. Dmitry Solyanov, a junior researcher at the university, sees a great future in biomedicine. He is currently engaged in research in the field of chromatography and gene editing, as well as developments in the field of prostate and breast cancer.
— The prospects of biomedicine primarily lie in the fact that they benefit the whole of humanity. Even if at the moment it seems that our research is very expensive or looks too far into the future, is something from the field of futurism, every research, every development by a young scientist somehow reduces the cost of future technologies. And what seems inaccessible now will be able to improve the lives of thousands of people in a few years," Dmitry Solyanov believes.
One of the speakers of the forum, Gregoire Prevost, President of the French CIPREVO Center (Cancer and Innovation), believes that the main goal of the international scientific dialogue is to develop collaboration and exchange best practices in the fight against chronic diseases and oncology. At the conference, he shared the results of a study that was conducted on small cell lung cancer cells and studied the effects of certain drugs.
—Whether drugs that can defeat cancer will be created in the near future is a difficult question," says the French biologist. — Today, many scientists around the world are working on cancer treatment, but prevention is of primary importance. The main goal is to prevent the development of the disease. First of all, we are talking about a healthy lifestyle. This approach can significantly reduce the risk of cancer, including breast, prostate, and colon cancer.
The conference participants covered a variety of topics related to molecular medicine, from genomics and DNA editing to digital healthcare and targeted therapies.
Biomarkers, artificial intelligence, and the prevention of chronic diseases were also discussed during the sessions.
