In recent years, Maktaaral farmers have increasingly gained recognition for growing high-quality cabbage. Their produce is now known across the country and is even being exported abroad.

Throughout the district, early-maturing cabbage has been planted on 430 hectares using drip irrigation technology, and the first harvests have already begun. To date, nearly 1,500 tons of cabbage have been exported to neighboring Russia.

One of the first farms to harvest cabbage this season is “Erezhep Ata,” located in the Zhambyl village of the Zhambyl rural district. This year, the farm planted 9 hectares of the Beijing variety Monaco F-1 and 3 hectares of Farao F-1 using drip irrigation.

The Monaco cabbage has already matured and initially entered the market at a price of 250 KZT per kilogram. Currently, it is being sold for 170–190 KZT per kilogram. This variety yields around 300 centners per hectare. The “Agrogruz” production cooperative, located in the N. Yesentaev village of the Maktaaral rural district, has opened a cabbage collection center and is now shipping products directly to Russia.

By the end of the week, sugar beet from our district is also expected to hit the market. The “Sabyr” farming enterprise, also located in the N. Yesentaev village, has cultivated 35 hectares of land: 7 hectares with sugar beet, 10 hectares with cabbage, and 13 hectares with melon. The sugar beet is expected to ripen in a few days, and the head of the farm plans to sell the crop at 300 KZT per kilogram.

It is worth noting that cotton planting has also begun in the Maktaaral district. This year, it is planned to plant cotton on over 35,000 hectares, and 4,000 hectares have already been sown. Of this, 800 hectares will be cultivated using drip irrigation technology. In addition, drip irrigation is being introduced for cabbage, melon, and rice crops.

One of the farms implementing drip irrigation for cotton is “Sogdiana,” located in the Unymker village of the Zhanibek Nurlybayev rural district. The farm has signed a contract with the domestic company “BNK Group” and is introducing new water-saving technologies on 11.4 hectares. The cost per hectare is approximately 900,000 KZT, 80% of which is subsidized by the government.
