The Abai Region Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency has completed an investigation into two entrepreneurs who, from September 2023 to October 2024, were illegally extracting and selling sand in the city of Semey without the required license.
As a result, they unlawfully extracted over 68,000 tons of sand, causing damage to the state estimated at 272 million tenge.
The sand was later sold to construction material manufacturers through a private business using fake certificates of conformity.
The illegal profit from the sales exceeded 150 million tenge.
Some of the money was used to purchase a front-end loader, which generated an additional income of 6.2 million tenge.
With court approval, authorities seized the suspects’ assets worth over 181 million tenge for possible confiscation.
The assets include 11 vehicles, 2 apartments, a plot of land, and accounts receivable totaling 17 million tenge.
