In Petropavlovsk, cadets from the National Guard Academy and servicemen of military unit 6637 congratulated World War II veteran Fyodor Shcheglov on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory.

The initiative for this heartfelt tribute came from the cadets and soldiers themselves, and it was fully supported by the leadership of the Academy and the military unit.

A ceremonial drill march by a formation group, accompanied by a military band, was held in front of the 98-year-old veteran’s home. A former tank crewman, the veteran shared his wartime memories with the young servicemen.

— I thank the National Guard troops for their attention and respect. May the skies above us remain peaceful and the country calm. The most important thing is that there be no more wars, — said the veteran.

Fyodor Shcheglov was drafted into service from Königsberg. He personally endured the horrors of fierce battles in Palau, where he lost many of his comrades. His wartime valor has been recognized with the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, and the Medal “For the Victory over Japan.”

It should be noted that the internal troops are conducting various commemorative events involving servicemen as part of the “100 Days to Victory” campaign.
