The premiere of the deep and poignant drama "Son" based on the play by Florian Zeller took place on the stage of the Akmola Regional Russian Drama Theater in early March. The performance became an important event in the cultural life of the region, provoking a lively response from the audience and the professional community.
A story told from the stage is not just a dramatic plot, but an emotional mirror in which everyone can recognize themselves. The teenage crisis, the pain of loss, paternal guilt, loneliness and a desperate attempt to be heard - the themes touched upon in the production penetrate to the very heart. "Son" is not so much a play as a conversation that it is impossible to remain indifferent to.
The production was performed by Armenian director Karo Balyan, a recognized theater figure, director of the International Shakespeare Festival in Yerevan, and a teacher at the State Institute of Theater and Cinema. Thanks to his sensitive direction, the play acquired a subtle emotional fabric and visual expressiveness. The set design was designed by Gevorg Evangulyan, and the costume designer was Ekaterina Piskunova. The musical score was also created by Karo Balyan.
The roles were performed by theater artists: Egorin A. A. (Nicolas), Vladimirov A. B. and Valiev T. H. (Pierre), Naumenko O. A. and Skuratova L. V. (Anna), Bukreeva A. N. (Sofia), Sabyr B. (Doctor), Vasilevskaya E. V. (Nurse). The team impresses with its depth and professionalism. The image of the teenager Nicolas sounded especially strong, subtly conveying the inner struggle, longing and search for meaning.
The duration of the performance is 1 hour and 35 minutes, but during this time the audience experiences a whole human drama. The organizers set themselves the goal of talking about important things through the theater: parental responsibility, emotional sensitivity, the complexity of adolescence and the importance of empathy.
During the days of the show, the auditorium was filled with students, representatives of the creative intelligentsia, veterans and theater fans. The discussion after the performance confirms that "Son" has become an occasion for reflection and a frank conversation about what happens in families - behind closed doors, often in silence and understatement.
The play "Son" is the final part of Zeller's dramatic trilogy, which also includes "Father" and "Mother". Since its world premiere in Paris in 2018, the production has been recognized on the stages of London and New York for its sincerity and psychological accuracy.
The play "Son" became an example of how the stage can become a platform for socially significant conversation and emotional revelation.
