The Consulate General of Kazakhstan honored the memory of Kazakhstani soldiers

Strasbourg, May 9, 2025 – The Consulate General of Kazakhstan took part in the solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesites of Soviet soldiers and honored the memory of Kazakhstani soldiers who perished during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of France.
The event, organized by the Consulate General of Russia in Strasbourg at the city’s Southern Cemetery, was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, city administration officials, the leadership of the memorial, as well as local residents and activists who emphasized the significance of the soldiers’ heroism in the struggle for France’s freedom.
It is symbolic that, on the eve of the 80th Anniversary of Victory, the French Grand Est was visited by the renowned Kazakh researcher, historian and professor, G.Mendikulova. As part of her working visit, meetings and negotiations were held with representatives of local authorities, archival institutions, and public organizations aimed at locating the burial sites of Soviet Kazakh soldiers who died during World War II.
It is known that on the territory of the memorial to Soviet soldiers established in 1971 and the cemetery of the commune of Valleroy (Meurthe-et-Moselle Department) there are burials of Kazakh soldiers – Zeinulla Alimgaziev, Konyspek Zhakiianov, Mysakhan (Nishan) Turgambaev and Isin (Esen) Dzhumagulov, who were discovered in 2018 thanks to the work of Professor G.Mendikulova with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in France. Later, the graves of Kazakh soldiers Nikolay Mikhailovich Shcheglov from East Kazakhstan and Alexander Ivanovich Kosobokov from North Kazakhstan were identified.
