Kazakhstan’s strategic role in focus at academic discussion in Spain

Madrid – Cádiz, May 15, 2025 – The University of Cádiz hosted a conference titled “Kazakhstan’s Role in Central Asia”, organized by the International University Centre for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Spain, Danat Mussayev, addressed the event, presenting Kazakhstan’s foreign policy vision and outlining the country’s contributions to advancing global sustainability and international stability.

His remarks placed particular emphasis on the upcoming Astana International Forum 2025 (AIF2025) and Kazakhstan’s proposal to establish an International Agency for Biological Safety under the auspices of the United Nations, reaffirming the country’s consistent support for multilateralism.

Focusing on regional dynamics, Kazakh diplomat highlighted the growing strategic importance of Central Asia and Kazakhstan’s intent to strengthen ties with the European Union. In this context, he stressed the relevance of enhanced transport and logistics connectivity, notably Kazakhstan’s role in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), regarded as a key corridor linking Europe and Asia amid evolving global trade patterns.

Participants of the conference acknowledged Kazakhstan’s constructive engagement in regional affairs and emphasized its standing as a trusted partner of the EU. The discussion further underlined the country’s efforts in reinforcing regional resilience and its evolving role as a responsible and recognized “middle power” in the international system.
