Child safety remains a top priority for the Zhetysu Department for Emergency Situations (DES). Yesterday, DES specialists joined the Tekeli Prosecutor’s Office to run an outdoor safety workshop at the Viking tourist base for children from socially vulnerable families and their parents. The session formed part of the nationwide “Happy and Safe Childhood” campaign overseen by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The first half of the programme focused on water hazards. Instructors explained why diving into unknown waters is dangerous, how to gauge depth and temperature, and what to do if a friend starts drowning. Children tried on life-jackets, practised throwing a rescue line, and performed CPR on a training manikin.

Wildfire risks dominated the second half. Rescuers demonstrated how a single spark can fuel a large steppe blaze, highlighted everyday objects that can ignite under intense sun, and reiterated the universal emergency number — 112.

The 90-minute session drew 52 participants, all of whom left with illustrated leaflets summarising key safety rules and emergency contacts.
