Issues of opening direct air service between Astana and Belgrade discussed in Serbia

Belgrade, 19 May 2025 – Delegation from Kazakhstan led by the Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastayev and the management of SCAT Airlines visited Belgrade, where they held a number of meetings on the opening of direct flights between Astana and Belgrade.

During the meeting with the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Alеksandra Sofronijеvić, they discussed interstate legal acts within the framework of which the flights of the Kazakh airline will be carried out. At the same time, an agreement was reached to expand the legal framework for deepening co-operation in civil aviation. It was emphasised that the opening of a direct flight between the two states will give a new impetus to the development of relations in all spheres.

During the meeting with the management of the Serbian national airline Air Serbia, representatives of the Kazakh air carrier SCAT Airlines discussed technical details of the operation of the direct flight between the two capitals and its prospects.

In order to ensure commercial efficiency of the project, considerable attention was paid to cooperation between tourism agencies and organisations of Kazakhstan and Serbia. Meetings with the Vice-Ministers of Tourism and Youth of Serbia Višnja Rakić and Aleksandar Vukićević, as well as the leadership of the National Association of Travel Agencies of Serbia YUTA, confirmed the high potential and interest in creating an ‘air bridge’ between Central Asia and the Western Balkans, which will open new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchanges.
