Kazakhstan and Bulgaria strengthen economic cooperation

On May 20, the 5th meeting of the Kazakh-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Sofia (Republic of Bulgaria). The event was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin and Minister of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Bulgaria Petr Dilov.
The Chairmen of the Joint Commission noted with satisfaction that for more than 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Bulgaria, the countries have established strong bonds of friendship and partnership. The parties discussed in detail issues of deepening cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, transport, industry, agriculture, tourism, energy, culture and education.
In parallel with the meeting, a Kazakh-Bulgarian business forum was held, which was attended by representatives of the business circles of the two countries.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to maintain regular contacts and coordinate efforts to further expand mutually beneficial relations between the two countries. The agreements reached were consolidated by signing the protocol of the 5th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission.
Today, more than 60 enterprises with Bulgarian participation in mining, manufacturing, construction, transport, retail trade and science are successfully operating in Kazakhstan. The parties see prospects for deepening cooperation in the joint processing of agricultural products, the development of logistics hubs and the launch of new industrial projects.
By the end of 2024, the volume of mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Bulgaria increased almost fourfold compared to 2023, reaching 375,2 million US dollars. The volume of Bulgarian investments in the economy of Kazakhstan in 2024 amounted to 7,8 million dollars, which is 86.5% more than in the previous year. In January-March 2025, the trade turnover amounted to 66,6 million US dollars, which is 93,3% higher than in the same period of the previous year (34,5 million US dollars). At the same time, exports from Kazakhstan to Bulgaria increased 2,4 times in the first quarter of this year and amounted to 51,4 million US dollars.
