Kazakhstan and Bulgaria Expand Economic Partnership

Sofia, May 19-20, 2025 – In order to further develop bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the 5th meeting of the Kazakh-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation (IGC) was held in Sofia, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin and Minister of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Bulgaria Peter Dilov.

During the meeting of the IGC, which was also attended by representatives of sectoral government agencies and organizations of the two countries, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further development of cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, transport and logistics, agriculture, energy, industry, IT, tourism, culture, education and science.

S.Zhumangarin, the co-Chairman of the IGC from the Kazakh side, presented relevant initiatives to increase economic growth and improve the investment climate in the country.

The parties noted with satisfaction the successful holding of the meeting, and also noted the fruitful cooperation within the framework of the Bulgarian-Kazakh Business Forum held on the eve of the IGC meeting, where more than 70 representatives of business circles of the two countries took part.

Addressing representatives of Bulgarian business at the opening of the business forum, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan S.Zhumangarin informed about the opportunities created by the Government for foreign investors to do business in our country, confirming his readiness to provide all necessary assistance for the successful implementation of investment projects.

Following the meeting, the Protocol of the 5th meeting of the Kazakh-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was signed.

On the eve of the IGC meeting, the Head of the Kazakh delegation held bilateral meetings with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria Grozdan Karadjov and with his Bulgarian counterpart P.Dilov.  

During the meeting with G.Karadzhov, the interlocutors discussed the prospects for deepening relations within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) in the context of its increasing role in ensuring transport and transit flows between the countries of Europe, Central Asia and China, as well as opportunities for developing cooperation in the field of healthcare.

 

According to the Bureau of Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2024, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Bulgaria amounted to $375.2 million, an increase of 3.9 times compared to 2023 ($95.2 million), of which Kazakhstan's exports amounted to $303.6 million (an increase of 11.1 p.) imports from Bulgaria amounted to $71.6 million (+5.5%).

In 2024, $7.8 million were attracted from Bulgaria to Kazakhstan, which is an increase of 86.5% compared to 2023 ($4.2 million).
