From May 22 to 23, 2025, the aviation unit of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the nationwide command-and-staff exercise "Өрт-2025", held in the Maykaragai Forestry of the Ertis Ormany reserve in Pavlodar Region.

The large-scale drills were aimed at enhancing preparedness for natural wildfire emergencies, focusing on interagency coordination during natural disaster response scenarios.

The National Guard participated in the exercises with a Mi-171E helicopter crew, equipped with a water-dropping system capable of releasing up to 2.5 tons of water in a single drop. The crew conducted targeted suppression of simulated fire sources, drawing water from nearby natural reservoirs.

In addition to aviation support, more than 50 National Guard service members were involved in securing population safety within the simulated fire zones. The troops also conducted a search and rescue training mission for missing persons in the exercise area.

In total, the drills involved over 350 personnel, 63 units of equipment, including special-purpose machinery, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and six aircraft.

It is worth noting that the National Guard’s aviation forces are regularly deployed in real-life emergency operations — from flood control efforts to the extinguishing of wildfires in steppes and forests.

The "Өрт-2025" command-and-staff exercise marked a critical phase in wildfire season preparedness and significantly strengthened interagency collaboration in civil protection.
