Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the award ceremony for medical workers

The President congratulated the participants of the event on the Day of the Medical Worker and noted the special significance of the meeting, which is being held for the first time in Akorda on the occasion of this holiday.

– Folk wisdom says: "Health is the first wealth." Indeed, the health of the nation is a priority value for our country. Al-Farabi, known to the world as the "Second Teacher," considered medicine to be an art. The profession of a doctor is chosen according to the dictates of the heart. This work, which involves a huge workload, is not available to everyone. Medical workers are the guardians of the nation's health, representatives of the most respected and noble profession. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, we all witnessed the dedicated work of doctors. During the most difficult period, they saved the lives of thousands of people. We deeply appreciate your hard work and are proud of your resilience. "Saving one person's life is equal to saving the whole of humanity." Doctors perform real feats every day – during operations, in hospital rooms. It is not uncommon for patients to fight for their lives right in the ambulance. You rightfully deserve to be called peacetime heroes. I would like to express my gratitude to all the medical staff," the Head of State said.

According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakh doctors have always put the interests of the country above all else. He cited the example of prominent national figures, famous doctors Khalel Dosmukhamedov and Sanjar Asfendiyarov, who devoted their lives to fighting both for the independence of the country and for the well-being of our people.

– Today, about 380 thousand people work in the field of domestic healthcare. The work of each specialist cannot be overestimated. Entire medical dynasties have formed in the country, dedicating their lives to improving people's health. Thus, the Dzhuvashev family from Almaty has 13 doctors with a total experience of 375 years. And in Atyrau region, there are 16 doctors in the Shanaev family. This is a worthy example of continuity and fidelity to the vocation. Today, the national healthcare system is steadily moving forward. We have a lot of achievements. The average life expectancy in the country has reached 75.4 years. Maternal and child mortality decreased by about 12%. In five years, about 800 polyclinics and hospitals have been built. Work in this direction will continue. The government will continue to develop the infrastructure. Caring for the health of the nation begins with the provision of primary medical care. The country is implementing a national project to modernize rural healthcare. To date, 469 facilities have already been built, and 186 more will be commissioned by the end of this year. Regional hospitals are being equipped with modern medical equipment," the President said.
