Athens, June 15, 2025 – On Sunday, a scientific and historical conference was held in the capital of Greece, dedicated to the history of Pontic Greeks who lived and continue to live in Kazakhstan. The event was organized by the Hellenism Support Center under the Municipality of Kallithea and the Association of Greek Societies of Kazakhstan "Philia".
The conference was attended by representatives of the Greek diaspora from Kazakhstan, public and political figures, the leadership of the Kallithea Municipality, as well as friends and partners of Kazakhstan.
Participants focused on the historical processes that led to the relocation of Pontic Greeks to Kazakhstan and other regions of Central Asia. These events had a significant impact on the fate of thousands of Greek families and left a deep imprint on the historical memory of both nations.
Key topics included the preservation of historical heritage, strengthening of humanitarian and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Greece, and support for the Greek community, which has become an integral part of Kazakhstan's multinational society.
Special attention was paid to the contribution of Pavlos Ivanovich Feodoridis — honorary chairman of the "Philia" Association and long-time member of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, who was awarded the "Dostyk" Order in Kazakhstan and the Order of the Phoenix (Silver Cross) in Greece. His efforts to strengthen Kazakh-Greek relations and preserve the cultural identity of Greeks in Kazakhstan were highly praised by the participants.
In his speech, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Greece Timur Sultanovzhin emphasized the importance of interethnic harmony, tolerance, and solidarity as essential elements of Kazakhstan’s societal development model. He also highlighted the contributions of prominent figures from the Greek community in Kazakhstan — such as footballer Efstathios Pexlevanidis and renowned singer Lakis Kesoglidis — to bilateral relations and cultural exchange.
The conference marked an important step in preserving shared historical heritage and promoting cultural dialogue and humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and Greece.
