The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Starlink company (a subsidiary of SpaceX) have signed an agreement on the official launch of satellite Internet services on the territory of Kazakhstan. The document envisages the company's operation in full compliance with the country's legislation in the field of information security and communication.

The document envisages the launch of official sales of Starlink satellite terminals for the people of Kazakhstan - sales are planned to begin in the third quarter of 2025.

Implementation of the project will be an important step in providing remote regions of the country with high-speed satellite Internet. This will expand the possibilities of digital communication and give a new impetus to the development of telecommunication infrastructure.

Connecting to the high-speed Internet through Starlink will allow access to quality communication to rural schools, medical institutions, mobile groups and infrastructure facilities. This is especially relevant in regions where it is difficult to attract fiber-optic networks from an economic or technical point of view. To cover all residents with quality Internet, we use various methods, from fiber-optic communication networks to cell towers. However, there are also areas that are difficult to access, such as pastures, mountain villages and remote businesses. Residents there should also have access to quality Internet. Currently, there are technologies in the world that allow this. Until now, Starlink has been working in pilot mode, offering internet only to schools in the country. And for the people it was officially unavailable. Now that we have reached an agreement, the company will work in accordance with the requirements of national legislation in the field of information security and communication. This year, the necessary works will be carried out, and residents will be able to officially and legally connect to the satellite Internet," Minister Zhaslan Madiev said.

The status of legalization and official use of Starlink equipment is of particular importance: now citizens can legally buy and use terminals and register them in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Connection to the Starlink satellite Internet is activated through special user devices. Currently, technical and organizational issues are being coordinated, including the procedure for providing services to individual users.

All stages of the project implementation are carried out in compliance with the requirements of national legislation, including security requirements.

This initiative is implemented within the framework of the implementation of the task of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to reduce the digital inequality between the city and the countryside and is undertaken in accordance with the goals of the national project "Accessible Internet".
