Cooperation Prospects with French Nancy

Nancy, June 16-17, 2025 – As part of a working visit to the city of Nancy, the Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Strasbourg, Anel Bakytbekkyzy, held bilateral meetings with the city administration and the leadership of the University of Lorraine.

During the meeting with Deputy Mayor Antoine Le Sollez, the parties discussed cooperation issues with local authorities, prospects for collaboration in the trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, including the possibility of establishing sister-city relations with cities of Kazakhstan.

Bakytbekkyzy informed her counterpart about the current development of Kazakhstan and President K.Tokayev’s reform program, as well as briefed on Government priorities in modernization and diversification of the national economy.

Highlighting the significant potential of Nancy, which has industrial production, high technology and R&D economic zones, the Consul General expressed interest in establishing partnership, as well as Nancy’s experience in the field of environmental safety.

The Consulate General also expressed its readiness to organize a working visit of a Nancy delegation to one of Kazakhstan’s regions with the aim of establishing direct ties.

To foster investment cooperation, the Consul General outlined opportunities in key sectors and encouraged the French region to leverage Kazakhstan’s investment potential. She also proposed organizing a seminar for Nancy’s business circles on Chamber of Commerce and Industry platform.

In turn, A.Le Sollez thanked the delegation for their visit to the region and reaffirmed his commitment to developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Kazakhstan. The city representative also welcomed the interest and initiatives of the Kazakh mission to hold joint cultural events, organize tours and exhibitions, and expressed readiness to provide every possible support.

In order to pursuit bilateral cooperation in the field of science and education, A. Bakytbekkyzy also held talks with the leadership and academic staff of the National School of Geology (ENSG), University of Lorraine.

The meeting with the ENSG Head of the International Relations Department I.Panfilov and researchers O.Botella and С.Fay-Varnier provided an opportunity to discuss the training and education of Kazakh specialists in the oil and gas sector, as well as exchange information in advanced practices.

In turn, the partners from the University of Lorraine shared university’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with international partners and expressed their willingness to further develop contacts with their Kazakh counterparts on discussed topics.

In conclusion of meetings held in Nancy, the attention of the interlocutors was drawn to the results of the recent International Forum Astana, as well as to several anniversaries and commemorative dates in 2025, including the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of Kazakhstan, the 30th Anniversary of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, the 180th Anniversary of Abay, the 100th Anniversary of N.Tlendiyev, and the 100th Anniversary of A.Moldagulova. In this regard, the Consulate General expressed its readiness to organize seminars and lectures with the participation of local experts, political scientists, and students.

Nancy, the administrative center of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, is located in the Grand Est of France, near the borders with Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg. It is considered a regional cultural, scientific, and economic hub, as well as the fifth-largest financial center in France and one of the 30 largest economic zones.

The city is home to one of the leading university complexes in the region – the University of Lorraine which brings together numerous faculties, engineering schools, scientific laboratories, and research institutes. The student population exceeds 60,000, and the University’s structure covers a wide range of disciplines, including natural sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences.
