Thanks to the swift actions of a probation officer in the Akkayin district, a potential tragedy was averted during a nighttime fire.
On June 9, 2025, at around 3:00 a.m. in the village of Smirnovo, Akkayin district, a fire broke out that could have ended in disaster if not for the decisive intervention of the officer.
Senior Inspector of the Probation Service Department for Akkayin District under the North Kazakhstan Regional Department of the Penal Enforcement System, Captain of Justice Darkhan Bekbulatov, was at home when he heard noises resembling gunshots. Upon stepping outside, he noticed plumes of smoke and immediately headed toward the source of the fire. He discovered that a bathhouse attached to a residential home was in flames, and the fire had already begun to spread to the main building.
Captain Bekbulatov quickly contacted the fire department dispatcher and provided the exact address of the incident. Before firefighters arrived, he took matters into his own hands: he woke the house’s residents—two young children, their mother, and her partner—and safely evacuated them.
At the same time, the officer cordoned off the area around the fire to prevent passersby from approaching and risking injury. He also took steps to contain the fire using available materials, trying to stop it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Thanks to the coordinated and timely actions of Darkhan Bekbulatov, all family members were saved, no lives were lost, and property damage was minimized.
The fire brigade arrived promptly and extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire was a violation of fire safety regulations related to the installation of the heating stove, specifically improper fireproof separation.
The rescued family expressed heartfelt gratitude to their savior for his courage and selflessness.
