Kazakhstan and the WCO Discussed the New CCASP Project

Brussels, 23 June 2025 — On the margins of the Policy Commission sessions of the World Customs Organization (WCO), representatives of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a working meeting with Mr. Andrew Reynolds, Head of the new Central Asia and South Caucasus Security Project (CCASP).
The CCASP project is implemented with financial support from the Government of Japan and is aimed at combating the illicit cross-border movement of small arms, light weapons, and unmanned aerial vehicles in the region.
Particular attention during the meeting was given to the preparation of the regional seminar, which will be held in Astana from 8 to 11 July 2025. The seminar will bring together representatives of customs authorities from Central Asia and the South Caucasus. The main focus will be on building capacity in customs control and security. Among the speakers are experts from the World Customs Organization, INTERPOL, and the OSCE.
The Kazakh side expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them and emphasized the importance of strengthening controls over the movement of sensitive goods, as well as expanding interagency and regional cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further cooperation within the CCASP framework, including the organization of national trainings and the implementation of joint initiatives to enhance professional skills and ensure effective coordination in combating illicit trade.
