Members of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts discussed current issues on the legal agenda in the region

The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Elvira Azimova took part in the online format in the meeting of the Council of Members of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions.
During the meeting, the official transfer of the presidency of the Association for 2025-2027 from the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place. In this regard, the Constitutional Court of Thailand presented the final report on the work accomplished during the period of its presidency in 2023-2025.
In addition, the participants were provided with information on the activities of the permanent secretariats of the Association, which operate on the basis of the constitutional courts of the participating countries. The Research and Development Secretariat is located in Seoul and is supervised by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea. The Coordination and Planning Secretariat operates in Jakarta under the auspices of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia. The Center for Training and Human Resources Development operates in Ankara under the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey.
Also during the meeting, the members of the Association positively considered the application of the Federal Constitutional Court of the Republic of Iraq to join the Association.
The Association was established in 2010 as a regional forum of constitutional justice bodies in Asia. Its functions include holding regular meetings of members, organizing symposiums, seminars and working visits, ensuring the exchange of experience of constitutional case law, informing on their working methods, exchanging views and ideas on institutional, structural and procedural issues related to public law and constitutional jurisdiction.
Currently, 21 States are members of the Association: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, the Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
The Association was chaired by the constitutional review bodies of the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia and the Kingdom of Thailand. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan chaired the Association in 2019-2021.
