International Day Against Drug Abuse Marked in Vienna
30.06.2025 15:12:25 99Vienna, June 26, 2025 – A special event dedicated to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held at the UN Office in Vienna, featuring the presentation of the 2025 World Drug Report.
During the discussion, participants examined in detail the social and medical consequences of drug use, the environmental damage caused by drug production and trafficking, and the links between drug trafficking and organized crime.
The Kazakh delegation expressed gratitude to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the comprehensive analysis provided in the report and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in countering the global drug threat. In light of the increasing spread of new psychoactive substances in the region, the Kazakh side shared national best practices in combating drug-related crime.
In the regional context, Kazakhstan called for enhanced international support for the activities of the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre (CARICC) in Almaty.
It was also noted that Kazakhstan has fulfilled its commitment under the global Pledge4Action initiative to establish specialized medical and social rehabilitation centers across all regions of the country.
In conclusion, the Kazakh delegation reaffirmed its readiness to actively contribute to the work of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs during its membership term from 2026 to 2029.
