Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market warns of cases of fraud committed using the name of Kazpost JSC.
The fraud scheme includes the following steps:
- A citizen receives an SMS message, allegedly from Kazpost, with information about delivery of a letter or a parcel.
- This is followed by a call via the WhatsApp messenger to a subscriber signed as "Kazpost".
- Under pretence of clarifying the address or confirming the delivery, citizens are asked to provide a code received in the SMS.
- As soon as attackers gain an access to the code, they can use it to log into applications or services in order to obtain personal data or apply for online loans in the name of the victim.
How to protect yourself:
Never provide confirmation codes from SMS, even if the caller introduces himself as an employee of an official organization. Do not follow links in messages from unknown senders. Do not give out personal information, bank card number or CVV code over the phone. Moreover, be careful about calls via messengers from unknown numbers.
All information must be double-checked through official channels – the website or mobile application. If signs of fraud are detected, you should immediately contact the enforcement agencies. For protection against fraudulent loans, it is recommended to set a voluntary refusal to receive bank loans and microloans on the eGov.kz portal or the eGov mobile application. A citizen can cancel such refusal at any time through the same official resources.
