On July 6, Kazakhstan celebrates a public holiday – the Day of the Capital (Astana Day), established by The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan" dated June 25, 2008 No. 47-IV.
The transfer of the capital from Alma Ata to the center of Kazakhstan was determined by the Resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the transfer of the Capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan" dated July 6, 1994 No. 106-XIII (that is why July 6 is considered Capital Day). The final decision to move the capital from Alma Ata to Akmola was made by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1997 and By decree President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 20, 1997 No. 3700. Since December 10, 1997, the city of Akmola has been declared the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
On May 6, 1998, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Renaming the city of Akmola, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to Astana, the capital" dated May 6, 1998, No. 3941, the capital was renamed.
On June 10, 1998, the official presentation of the new capital took place. And since the city acquired the capital status, Capital Day has been celebrated on June 10. In 2006, Astana Day was postponed to July 6.
May our capital, Astana, the heart of our Motherland, the pillar of our independence, prosper! Happy Capital Day!
