The first release under the amnesty dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place at Institution No.50 of the Department of the Penal Correction System in the North Kazakhstan Region. A 43-year-old woman, convicted under Article 108 of the Criminal Code, was granted early release.

The Law "On Amnesty in Connection with the 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan" was signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on June 23, 2025. The document provides for the mitigation or complete exemption from punishment for certain categories of convicted individuals.

The released woman had been serving a nine-month sentence. Under the new law, her sentence was reduced by seven months, allowing her to be released ahead of schedule. Her adult daughter was waiting to meet her at the gates of the institution.

Currently, more than 1,700 individuals are serving sentences in correctional facilities in the region. According to preliminary data, about 250 convicts, including more than 50 women, are eligible for amnesty.

"Each case is considered individually. Priority is given to first-time offenders, those who do not pose a threat to society, and women in vulnerable situations",- the department noted.

The amnesty law reflects the principles of humanism enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and aims to support the reintegration of convicted individuals by giving them an opportunity to start anew and return to full participation in society.
