On July 16, 2025, another city sanitation work was carried out in Shymkent at the initiative of the Zhayly Environmental Department. This time, the main focus was on watering and mechanical cleaning of the central and peripheral streets of the city. Such activities are carried out in order to improve the quality of life of city residents, ensure health and comfort, as well as maintain environmental sustainability.

Cleaning work began at 6:00 in the morning and continued until the evening. During this period, special water trucks sprayed water on the city streets to remove dust and dirt. In addition, debris, soil, small stones and accumulated sand on the roadsides were mechanically cleaned. More than 100 employees of city sanitation agencies and about 20 special equipment were involved in these works.

The event covered major streets of Al-Farabi, Abay, Enbekshi and Karatau districts. Particular attention was paid to areas with heavy traffic and pedestrian traffic - central avenues and near markets, near bus stops. Considering that dust accumulated in these areas negatively affects the breathing of city residents, the goal was to reduce airborne particles by spraying water.

Such mechanical cleaning operations directly affect the ecological condition of the city. The concentration of fine dust particles in the air not only harms the respiratory system, but also causes an increase in allergic diseases and lung diseases. Therefore, dust suppression is not just an external cleaning, it is an important measure aimed at protecting health.

Shymkent is one of the largest megacities in the country. Along with the growth of the population, the flow of traffic is also increasing. This, in turn, leads to an increase in air pollution and dust. Currently, the city pays special attention to environmental issues. In recent years, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Ecology have been jointly monitoring the cleanliness and environmental situation. The event held on July 16 is just one of the stages of this systematic work.

It should be noted that such cleaning operations have been organized in Shymkent before. In July 2023, similar events were held. At that time, the dust level was reduced by spraying water on the city streets, and hundreds of tons of waste were removed using special road cleaning equipment. And during the weekend organized in the spring of 2024, along with the streets, sidewalks and bus stops were completely washed, renewing the beauty of the city.

This year's special feature is the integrated implementation of these works. That is, spraying, mechanical cleaning and subsequent garbage collection were carried out simultaneously. In addition, special control groups were formed in the cleaned areas and began to monitor the cleanliness for several days. This is a concrete step towards improving the quality of work compared to previous years.

City residents have been positively assessing the event and expressing their gratitude on social media. The cleaning of public places, especially those frequented by the elderly and children, has a direct impact on the daily lives of city residents. The city administration has announced that these works will be carried out regularly, not seasonally.

Representatives of the Department of Environmental Protection also announced plans to expand the scope of work in this direction in the future. For example, if the weather permits, the main streets will be sprayed with water every week, and comprehensive cleaning will be carried out at least once a month. In addition, it is planned to purchase special small equipment for pedestrian walkways, which will allow improving the quality of cleaning in densely populated areas.

In conclusion, the water spraying and mechanical cleaning carried out on July 16 are one of the important stages in improving the sanitary cleanliness of Shymkent and the quality of life of its residents. This is not just a one-day campaign, but part of a long-term strategy aimed at creating a sustainable environmental culture. Compared to previous experiences, this year's work is distinguished by its scale and level of organization. The goal now is to continue this process and encourage every resident to contribute to maintaining cleanliness. Let's not forget that cleanliness is the common responsibility of every citizen, not just the akimat.
