On July 14, 2025, large-scale landscaping and sanitation works were organized in the Abay district of Shymkent. These works were carried out with the aim of improving the ecological situation of the city, increasing the level of landscaping and creating comfortable living conditions for residents. The event was jointly organized by the Shymkent City Department of Natural Resources and Nature Use Regulation and the Department of Comfortable Environment Development.
Abay district is one of the most densely populated districts of Shymkent. In addition to multi-storey residential buildings, there is a large concentration of private sectors, schools, kindergartens and retail outlets. Therefore, landscaping and cleanliness are constantly in focus in this district. The work carried out on July 14 was one of those systematic events.
The following work was carried out in the district on this day:
- 450 ornamental and shade trees have been planted. The trees include species adapted to the local climate, such as elm, maple, spruce, and beech.
- 2,500 square meters of lawn were laid. These lawns were mainly placed in recreation areas and areas near schools.
- 1,800 flowering plants were planted. The flowers included roses, chrysanthemums, petunias, and tulips.
- 18 tons of garbage and construction waste were removed using special equipment.
- Streets and yards were cleaned of dust and dirt , dead bushes along the sidewalks were cut , and painting and decorating was carried out.
More than 300 residents, district administration and administration employees, volunteers, and students participated in the event. In addition, 12 units of special equipment were mobilized - dump trucks, water trucks, garbage tractors, and lawn mowers.
The residents of the district warmly welcomed the event and actively participated in the landscaping work. Some residents even planted additional flowers in front of their houses, contributing to the cleanliness. This is a clear demonstration of the partnership between society and the authorities.
This time, the landscaping and cleaning work is closely related to similar events in previous years. For example, in the fall of 2023 , 300 trees were planted in the Abay district as part of the “Green Abay” program. At that time, mainly the territories of schools and hospitals were landscaped. In the spring of 2024, 1,000 square meters of lawn grass were laid in the old part of the district, and the empty areas between residential buildings were landscaped.
The work carried out on July 14, 2025 was organized in a much broader and more comprehensive manner. Previously, only the planting of greenery was planned, but this time additional activities were included, such as sanitary cleaning, lighting, painting, and removal of construction waste. In addition, fertilizers and organic additives were used in accordance with environmental safety standards.
As an innovation, this time informational QR-boards were installed next to the planted trees and flowers . Residents can receive information about the name, origin, and care methods of each plant via their mobile phones. This will increase interest in nature, especially among children and students, and contribute to the formation of environmental literacy.
At the end of the event, representatives of the district administration and the board announced that landscaping and cleaning work will continue in the future. In the fall, deciduous tree planting, short preparatory work, and several more environmental campaigns are planned before the end of the year.
In short, the landscaping and sanitation work carried out in the Abay district on July 14 is not just a seasonal campaign, it is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the quality of life of residents. The continuity with the experience of previous years, its scale and innovation allow us to see the results of these works in the long term. Such steps play an important role in transforming Shymkent into a green and clean city.
