On July 21, 2025, a large-scale clean-up day was held in Shymkent, during which about 15 tons of household and street garbage were collected. This event was part of the environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan" and covered various areas of the city. More than 250 people took part in the clean-up day - these are employees of government agencies, representatives of public utilities, students, schoolchildren and simply concerned residents. 11 units of special equipment were used to transport the garbage. Not only roadways and sidewalks were cleaned, but also adjacent areas, parks, squares and empty plots of land.
The cleanup was organized not only to clean up, but also to remind city residents of the importance of caring for the environment. Environmental awareness is formed not only through educational programs, but also through personal participation in such events. Participants noted that such events not only improve the sanitary condition of the city, but also unite people of different ages and professions around a common goal. Many came with children to show them by personal example the importance of caring for cleanliness and nature.
The organizers of the cleanup emphasized that the event was held in a positive atmosphere. People worked with enthusiasm, supported each other, communicated, and offered ideas for further improvement of their neighborhoods. Such events help to form a sense of community, when everyone feels that they can influence the quality of the environment in which they live. The participants were presented with letters of gratitude and souvenirs as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the development of the city.
It is worth noting that this is not the first clean-up day held in Shymkent. In September 2023, a similar event was held as part of the Zhasyl El program, during which more than 18 tons of garbage were collected. About 300 people took part then, and the clean-up day itself was accompanied by landscaping of the territory - trees and shrubs were planted. In the spring of 2024, another major clean-up took place, during which about 5 thousand trees were planted. These initiatives have become important milestones on the path to sustainable development of the city and improvement of the environmental situation.
Unlike previous campaigns, the July 2025 clean-up day was more widely covered and well-organized. Attention was paid not only to garbage collection, but also to informing residents. During the week, calls for participation were distributed on social networks, and information was provided about the harm of unauthorized dumps and the importance of waste sorting. Such steps help not only to restore order once, but also to strengthen environmental habits among the population.
It was especially nice to see the participation of young people. Schoolchildren and students came not under duress, but at the call of their hearts. They realize that a clean and safe environment is the basis for a prosperous life. Their activity shows that Shymkent has a future with conscious and responsible citizens. Such actions form not only cleanliness, but also respect for work, for the city, for those around you.
City authorities have stated that work in this direction will continue. The next stages of environmental activities are already planned, including repeated clean-up days, planting of green spaces, installation of containers for separate waste collection and holding educational meetings. The number of patrol checks for unauthorized waste dumping will be increased, and work on involving enterprises in the maintenance of adjacent territories will be intensified.
The clean-up on July 21 became a clear example of how collective work can change the city for the better. It showed that there is no need to wait for instructions "from above", just a desire to act and a little effort. Each participant made their contribution, and together they managed to achieve tangible results. Such events not only improve the appearance of Shymkent, but also strengthen civic activity, create a positive attitude and inspire new things.
Today, Shymkent needs such initiatives. The city is growing rapidly, new districts are appearing, the load on infrastructure and ecology is increasing. Timely and coordinated actions for cleaning, improvement and greening are becoming vital. The clean-up day showed that with the desire and support of the authorities, the business sector and active citizens, significant changes can be achieved.
