On July 18, 2025, in one of the largest districts of Shymkent - Abay - comprehensive landscaping, watering of green spaces and sanitary cleaning of the territory took place. This event was a continuation of the systematic efforts of the city authorities to improve the environmental situation, increase landscaping and form a responsible attitude to the environment among residents.
Since early morning, garbage collection, pruning of old bushes, street sweeping, and planting of new trees and ornamental shrubs began in different parts of the district. Employees of public services, volunteers, school and college students, representatives of public organizations, and simply concerned citizens took part in the event. In total, more than 150 people were involved in the event.
On this day, special attention was paid to parks, courtyards, roadsides and empty areas. The work was carried out using special equipment: tankers were used to water the green spaces, and dump trucks and tractors were used to remove the garbage. During the day, more than 30 tons of garbage were removed from different areas of the district, including construction waste, old leaves and spontaneous piles of household rubbish. This waste was delivered to special landfills for further disposal.
About 200 trees and shrubs were also planted in the area — mostly shade-tolerant and climate-friendly species. New plantings were made near schools, medical facilities and along busy streets. At the same time, existing green spaces were watered to preserve them in the summer heat.
The city administration notes that such events are necessary not only to maintain cleanliness, but also to improve the microclimate in the urban environment. In conditions of dense development and high temperatures, it is green spaces that become a natural filter for the air and create a comfortable atmosphere for residents. In addition, such events help to strengthen the sense of collective responsibility for the state of the environment.
It is worth recalling that this is not the first experience of carrying out environmental and sanitary work in the Abay district. For example, in the spring of 2023, as part of the Zhasyl Beldeu program, more than 3 thousand seedlings were planted here, and clean-up days were organized with the participation of residents. In the fall of 2024, a large-scale replacement of old and hazardous trees with young and environmentally sustainable species took place, thanks to which the district acquired a more well-groomed and green appearance.
A distinctive feature of the 2025 event was the active support from youth organizations. Volunteers conducted explanatory work among the population on the importance of waste sorting and regular maintenance of green spaces. Leaflets were distributed, and small posters with advice on eco-conscious behavior were placed in public places.
In addition, a new approach to green space maintenance was introduced this year. A specially created environmental control group will check the condition of new plantings monthly, monitor watering and provide recommendations for their further maintenance. This will not only improve plant survival, but also raise the overall level of organization of such work.
Local authorities expressed gratitude to all participants of the campaign - from schoolchildren to employees of enterprises who allocated time and resources for the common cause. Upon completion of the work, letters of gratitude were presented to active participants, and a mini-competition for the best improvement of courtyards and adjacent territories was announced under the name "Clean District - Healthy Society". This innovation is intended to encourage residents to independently maintain cleanliness in courtyards and around houses.
Overall, the event was an important step in creating a comfortable urban environment. It not only improved the appearance of the area, but also showed that the joint efforts of city residents, utilities and local authorities can produce tangible results. Such events are not limited to one day - they become part of a broad strategy for sustainable development of the city.
Experience from previous years shows that only regularity, consistency and public involvement can ensure a long-term effect. Therefore, in the future, similar events are planned to be held in the Abay district at least once a season, with an expansion of the scale of work and the number of participants. Particular emphasis will be placed on education so that each resident feels involved in maintaining cleanliness and order.
The campaign held on July 18 became a clear example of how to combine improvement, environmental education and social activity. And, most importantly, it inspired many to care for their neighborhood not out of obligation, but out of an inner desire to live in a clean, green and comfortable city.
