On July 11, 2025, a large-scale greening campaign was held in the Turansky district of Shymkent, organized by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. This event became part of the city program to improve the environmental situation, create a comfortable urban environment and form a responsible attitude towards nature among the population.

Turan is one of the youngest and most rapidly developing areas of the city. Residential complexes, schools, roads and social facilities are being rapidly built here. However, intensive development entails a shortage of green areas, which was the main reason for choosing this area as a priority for greening in July.

During one day, work was carried out in several key areas - near residential areas, social institutions, on central streets and in public areas. The following was planted as part of the project:

  • 350 ornamental trees (spruce, maple, birch),

  • 1200 perennial flowers (lilac, lavender, roses, chrysanthemums),

  • About 3,000 square meters of lawn were laid.

The choice of plants was based on their resistance to the dry climate of Southern Kazakhstan, ease of care and ability to absorb harmful substances from the air. All planted plants are equipped with a drip irrigation system, which will keep them in good condition even in hot summer conditions.

The landscaping work was accompanied by improvement of the soil layer: before planting, fertilizers and fertile soil were used to ensure rapid growth and adaptation of plants. More than 200 people took an active part in the event - employees of the department, volunteers, schoolchildren, as well as concerned local residents.

About 10 units of equipment were used to transport water and planting material. In addition, lawn mowers, mini tractors and trucks were used to remove construction and household waste from future green areas. All this made it possible to transform previously empty or littered areas into cozy corners of nature amidst urban development.

The proactive approach to educating city residents deserves special attention. Special signs with QR codes were installed in the areas where the work was carried out. With their help, any passerby can find out the name of the plant, the date of planting, care conditions and even interesting facts about its benefits for the environment. This innovation is aimed at increasing environmental culture among children and young people.

Similar events have been held in Shymkent before. In 2023, about 200 fruit trees were planted in the same area, mainly along the streets and in schoolyards. And in the spring of 2024, as part of the initiative to create a "green belt" around the city, more than 5,000 trees were planted in the suburban area. However, the difference in the July 2025 campaign is that all stages were worked out more thoroughly: from preparing the territory to connecting to irrigation systems and installing information materials.

City residents praised the authorities' efforts. Social networks posted many comments expressing gratitude to the participants of the campaign. They especially noted the timeliness of the work: at the height of summer, when the heat reaches its maximum, new green areas become a real salvation from dust and stuffiness. For parents with children, pensioners and people with chronic diseases, this is an important improvement in the quality of life.

The Natural Resources Department management reported that such campaigns will continue in the fall, when the season for planting deciduous trees and shrubs begins. In the future, it is planned to green other microdistricts of the city, especially those where dense development leaves a minimum of space for nature. The possibility of distributing free seedlings to residents is also being considered to encourage individual greening of courtyards and streets.

The results of the past campaign testify to a systematic approach to the improvement of Shymkent. The work was carried out taking into account the climate realities, the needs of the population and the city development plan. If previously the landscaping was of a point and seasonal nature, now it is part of a long-term strategy, including the participation of citizens, modern technology and educational components.

Thus, the greening of July 11 was not just another tree planting, but a step towards an ecologically sustainable future for the city. Shymkent is increasingly becoming a city where nature and urbanism can coexist in harmony, providing residents with clean air, shade on hot days, and visual pleasure from blooming streets and squares.
