On July 14, 2025, comprehensive landscaping and sanitary cleaning of the territory took place in the Abay district of Shymkent. The initiators of the event were the city departments of natural resources and comfortable urban environment. The main goal is to create a favorable environmental situation, improve the aesthetics of the area and increase the level of comfort for local residents.
Abaysky district is one of the most densely populated and actively developing in Shymkent. A large number of residential areas, educational institutions and social facilities are concentrated here, which means that the issue of improvement and sanitary order is always especially acute. Summer heat and high density of development only increase the need for regular measures for landscaping and cleaning.
During the July campaign, more than 450 trees of various species were planted, including linden, maple, elm, and drought-resistant shrubs. The work covered not only courtyards and park areas, but also areas near schools, kindergartens, clinics, and pedestrian streets. About 2,500 square meters of lawn were laid along the central alleys, and over 1,800 flowering plants appeared in flowerbeds and flower gardens, from chrysanthemums to petunias and roses.
Special attention was paid to sanitary cleaning. As a result, about 18 tons of garbage were removed, including household waste, construction waste and fallen branches. 12 units of special equipment were used - dump trucks, tractors, watering machines and lawn mowers. Deadwood was also trimmed, small architectural forms were painted, trees were whitewashed, urns and benches were cleaned. All activities were carried out within the framework of a single improvement plan adapted to the hot climatic conditions of the city.
About 300 people took part in the event — utility workers, representatives of local organizations, volunteers, students, and ordinary residents of the area. In many courtyards, residents themselves came out with shovels and watering cans to participate in the improvement of their street. This demonstrates the growing civic activity and desire of city residents to take part in the life of their area.
Compared to previous years, the scale and organization of such events have improved significantly. For example, in 2023, a campaign to plant trees near schools and medical institutions was held in the same area, but the coverage and involvement were noticeably smaller. In the spring of 2024, work was carried out to lay lawns and build playgrounds, but sanitary measures were only partially included.
The event of July 14, 2025 is distinguished by a comprehensive approach: environmental, sanitary and educational components were combined in one project. In particular, signs with QR codes appeared in some areas - with their help, you can find out information about a specific plant, the rules for caring for it, its environmental value and other interesting information. This format helps to popularize environmental education, especially among children and adolescents.
Local authorities emphasize that the campaign is not a one-off event, but part of a long-term strategy to improve the urban environment. In the fall, they plan to continue planting trees, conduct work to insulate the soil and protect plants from frost. The possibility of installing additional drip irrigation systems in new green areas will also be considered.
Residents of the Abay district evaluate the changes positively. According to them, the appearance of new trees and flowerbeds has noticeably transformed the appearance of courtyards and streets. In the conditions of the scorching sun, new plantings provide shade, and clean streets reduce dust levels and improve the general mood. This is especially important for families with children and the elderly.
Thus, the environmental campaign that took place on July 14 became another, but very significant step towards creating a sustainable, clean and green urban environment in Shymkent. A systematic approach, public participation and attention to detail allow us to hope that such events will become regular and cover the entire city.
