Cleanliness in the heart of the city: Shymcity Park becomes an example of urban care for the environment

On July 22, 2025, a new phase of regular monitoring of the sanitary condition of one of the most popular public places, Shymcity Park, began in Shymkent. The Zhayly Orta administration announced enhanced monitoring of cleanliness and order throughout the park. This is not just cleaning for the sake of order — it is a comprehensive program to create a comfortable and safe urban environment for all residents and visitors of the city.

Shymcity Park has long been a symbol of modern Shymkent: it is a space where children play, young people play sports, elderly people stroll along the alleys, and families have picnics and relax by the water. In order to keep this territory in a well-groomed condition and provide a favorable environment for recreation, the authorities decided to introduce daily supervision and maintenance of the green zone.

The following measures are currently in place in the park: garbage is removed in a timely manner, grass surfaces and flower beds are constantly maintained, and mobile teams are working to clean up the area. Moreover, the park regularly carries out preventive trimming of shrubs, watering of plantings, and minor repairs of benches and sidewalks. Special groups ensure that trash bins do not overflow and that vacationers maintain public order.

If we compare the current initiative with similar actions carried out in previous years, we can see a clear difference in approach. Previously, for example, in 2022 and 2023, cleaning in Shymcity Park was carried out sporadically, most often as part of environmental clean-up days or in response to complaints from city residents. On weekdays, especially in the evening, one could often see overflowing bins, scattered garbage, broken benches and dried-out trees. All this negatively affected the overall perception of the park and did not contribute to the formation of a respectful attitude towards public spaces.

In 2024, the first attempts to implement a systematic approach began. Then, new containers for separate waste collection were installed in the park, additional trees were planted, and the cleaning schedule was increased during peak season. However, due to a shortage of workers and irregular monitoring, the achieved effect quickly came to naught.

This year, the situation has changed. Now cleaning and maintenance are carried out not as needed, but according to a pre-approved schedule. The entire park is divided into sectors, each of which has a separate team. The leaders of these groups report on the work done daily. Thanks to this system, not only the sanitary conditions have noticeably improved, but also the atmosphere as a whole: the park has become cleaner, quieter, safer.

The ecological effect of such measures is also obvious. Removal of household waste prevents pollution of soil and water bodies, and healthy green spaces help improve air quality. In addition, a favorable ecological environment brings back representatives of the local fauna to the park - birds, butterflies and insects, which play an important role in maintaining biodiversity in the city.

It is important to note that improvements in the park are not limited to the efforts of public utilities. Volunteers, schoolchildren, students, and environmental movements are actively involved. They participate in one-time events, plant flowers, organize mini-cleaning days, and distribute information materials among park visitors. All this creates a sense of shared responsibility for the cleanliness and comfort of the public space.

Shymcity Park today can be called an example of how a modern urban space should look like - well-groomed, accessible and ecologically balanced. At the same time, the achieved level requires constant attention and support, because without a system even the best initiatives can lose relevance.

City authorities say that similar approaches will be gradually introduced in other parks and squares of Shymkent. This step is quite logical, because the formation of an ecological culture begins with simple things - a clean path, a neat flowerbed, a working trash can. If every corner of the city is kept in order, then residents will begin to treat common property more carefully.

Thus, the program for maintaining cleanliness and order in Shymcity Park is not only about improvement. It is about respect for the city, care for nature, and raising an environmentally responsible generation. Today's efforts create tomorrow's image of Shymkent - green, modern and comfortable for living.
