On August 3, 2025, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres participated in a series of events with government representatives and UN staff. A key highlight of the visit was the signing of an agreement on establishing the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu and UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua. The Centre will serve as an important platform for promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the regional level.
