On measures to combat drug trafficking

In pursuance of the instructions of the Head of State, the Prosecutor General's Office, together with law enforcement and special agencies, is taking a set of measures to combat drug addiction and drug trafficking, which has contributed to the intensification of work in this area and an increase in the scale of detection of such crimes.
On August 6, 2025, an interdepartmental meeting on combating drug trafficking was held at the Prosecutor General's Office.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the investigative and operational units of the National Security Committee, the Financial Monitoring Agency and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The results of the implementation of the decisions of the Coordination Council for Ensuring Law, Law and Order and Combating Crime were discussed, additional measures to prevent drug addiction and combat drug trafficking were developed.
As part of the implementation of the "Law and Order" principle, criminal prosecution agencies have intensified their work to suppress crimes related to illegal drug trafficking.
New assessments of the effectiveness of law enforcement and special agencies in this area have been introduced. The emphasis in their activities is aimed at identifying and suppressing the entire chain of drug trafficking.
As a result of the measures taken, the number of cases of drug trafficking increased by 16% (from 1,407 to 1,637) in the first 7 months of 2025.
The involvement of the active civic position of society made it possible to destroy more than 35 thousand graffiti advertising drugs, and 22 drug advertisers were detained on the spot.
The activities of 14 criminal groups involved in drug trafficking were stopped, including 2 transnational ones.
More than 14 tons of drugs were confiscated and 21 drug laboratories producing synthetic drugs were liquidated.
For example, in May of this year, an underground drug laboratory was liquidated in the village of Nura in the Almaty region, 8 tons of precursors and over 100 kilograms of drugs ready for consumption were seized.
In Pavlodar, prosecutors have identified an apartment with high energy consumption, in which a local resident grew the cannabis plant and distributed it via the Internet.
Since the beginning of the year, three foreign citizens have been detained for organizing underground laboratories.
22 thousand crypto wallets used by drug dealers have been identified, digital assets worth 18 million US dollars have been seized.
Property worth 10 billion tenge has been seized in drug cases, of which more than 9 billion are in cases investigated by special prosecutors.
Within the framework of the memorandum concluded between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the AFM, 50 interdepartmental investigative and operational groups have been created across the country to combat the shadow income of the drug business, which include experienced employees.
A number of complex criminal cases on drug crimes have been accepted for production by special prosecutors.
Following the meeting, criminal prosecution agencies were instructed to step up work to identify drug labs and disunite criminal groups, as well as conduct financial investigations to identify and suppress the activities of drug store organizers.
The heads of investigative units are focused on improving the quality of pre-trial investigations, taking a full range of measures to identify the beneficiaries of the drug business.
The Prosecutor General's Office will continue its systematic work to combat the drug business and coordinate the actions of government agencies.
