Large-scale events dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great thinker and educator Abai Kunanbayuly were held in Shymkent. The celebration began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to the poet in Abai Park.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Shymkent, Gabit Syzdykbekov, representatives of the intelligentsia, public figures, scientists, rectors of universities, heads of political parties and public organizations, leaders of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and ethnocultural associations, active youth and city residents.

During the festive ceremony, children recited Abai's poems with great skill, leaving a special impression on the audience. Participants visited the "Hakim Abai" museum, opened in 2009, and got acquainted with the poet's work, translations, and the lifestyle of his time.

The event continued with a visit to the exhibition "The Great Abay of the Great Steppe" at the Exhibition Center. Valuable exhibits related to the life and legacy of the great poet are on display here.

The spiritual and cultural holiday concluded with the republican "Abai's World" competition, followed by concerts and literary evenings held in cultural institutions in the city.
