On August 2, another city-wide cleanup was organized in Shymkent as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" republican environmental campaign. This event turned into a large-scale cleaning campaign that covered all districts of the city. Employees of the city administration and various government agencies, active youth and volunteers joined forces and contributed to the beautification and improvement of the city's sanitary conditions.
More than 11 thousand people participated in the event, and 215 special equipment was deployed. During this day's cleanup, more than 160 tons of household and construction waste were removed, water channels and banks were cleaned. Dead tree branches were cut, grass in green belts was mowed, irrigation systems were cleaned, and garbage was collected from sidewalks and roadsides. All this is aimed at keeping the city clean and creating a comfortable living environment.
Four districts of the city — Enbekshi, Al-Farabi, Abai, and Karatau — participated in the Sabbath. In each district, cleaning activities were organized according to a specific plan, and courtyards, recreation areas, and public institutions were cleaned.
This event aims not only to ensure cleanliness, but also to increase the ecological culture of the population. The participation of volunteers and youth organizations demonstrates the impact of this initiative on the education of future generations.
The ecological campaign began in the spring, on March 16, in all regions of the country. Since then, weekly clean-up activities have been held in Shymkent. This initiative will continue until the end of the year, and clean-up activities will be organized every week. This ongoing work is aimed at systematically improving the ecological situation of the city.
In general, such clean-ups are not the first time in Shymkent. For example, last year, autumn and spring clean-ups were organized at the initiative of the city administration, and thousands of tons of garbage were removed. During the clean-up in October 2023, city residents and representatives of government agencies also actively participated, and about 120 tons of garbage were collected. This time, the indicators show that it is being held on a much larger scale and more systematically.
In comparison, the peculiarity of this year's "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign is that it is organized and systematically implemented at the republican level. Weekly clean-ups are a regular environmental event included in the calendar plans of city and district akimats. In addition, this year, special equipment and safety items were provided to the participants of the clean-up, and the work process was much more organized.
It is worth noting that the voluntary participation of city residents in this event indicates an increase in the environmental responsibility of society. The activity of young people in particular deserves special attention. They not only carry out cleaning work, but also spread information on social networks, setting an example for their peers.
Sanitation is not just about cleaning, it is a mechanism for protecting the environment. It is a clear manifestation of compassion for nature, respect for society, and a sense of responsibility. It is important to understand that keeping the city clean depends not only on the akimat, but on each resident.
Today, the cleanliness and well-being of city streets is a key indicator of the appearance of a metropolis. Therefore, such initiatives should continue throughout the year, not just in the spring and autumn seasons, becoming a permanent element of environmental education.
The Shymkent city administration announced that such Saturdays will continue in the future, and also plans to strengthen environmental education classes in schools and universities. This, in turn, will play an important role in shaping the attitude of children and adolescents towards nature.
In conclusion, the city-wide cleanup on August 2 was an important event that increased the environmental responsibility of Shymkent residents. This is not just a one-time event, but a systematic initiative with a long-term goal. Such work will continue in the future, contributing to the city becoming a cleaner and more comfortable place.
