Geneva, 14 August 2025 – Advisor to the President – Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation Zulfiya Suleimenova, together with representatives of the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the WTO, met with Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), at the WMO Headquarters in Geneva.

The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and the WMO, including the implementation of joint projects in climate monitoring, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development.

Ms. Suleimenova expressed gratitude for the WMO’s support of Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish a Unified Regional Platform for the National Hydrometeorological Services of Central Asia, as well as for assistance in advancing the regional project “Integrated Drought Management in Central Asia” (IDCA), approved by the Adaptation Fund.

Special attention was given to the project on creating a network of meteorological stations and environmental monitoring posts in the Aral Sea region, aimed at improving monitoring in the Aral Sea basin and reducing the transboundary impacts of environmental threats. Kazakhstan looks forward to the WMO’s support in identifying funding sources and integrating monitoring data into global information systems.

During the meeting, Ms. Suleimenova invited Ms. Saulo to participate in the Regional Environmental Summit to be held in Kazakhstan in April 2026, noting that the event will be an important international platform for discussing climate, water, and environmental challenges.

Ms. Saulo thanked for the invitation, expressed the WMO’s interest in participating in the summit, and emphasized that Kazakhstan is a strong and key regional player in climate and environmental resilience.

The parties agreed to continue cooperation on key climate and environmental initiatives in both the regional and global contexts.
