In East Kazakhstan, a Bold Attempt to Smuggle Narcotics into a Prison Was Foiled. A Repeat Offender, Freed on Parole 10 Days Earlier, Was Arrested

In the East Kazakhstan region, a brazen attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs into a prison was thwarted. The main suspect in the case is a 26-year-old repeat offender who was released on parole just 10 days earlier. The man had traveled to the East Kazakhstan region from a neighboring one.

The man attempted to throw packages over the fence of a correctional facility in the Shemonaikha district. Prison and National Guard staff acted quickly to apprehend him. A police dog immediately located the possible hiding spots of the packages and picked up the scent of the "courier," who tried to flee the scene.

The unusual packaging drew special attention: the drug packages were wrapped in duct tape and electrodes. According to the detainee, the electrodes were supposed to "help him see where the 'package' landed so it wouldn't get lost in the grass and undergrowth." However, despite the offender's ingenuity, his plan failed. An expert examination confirmed that the seized substance was marijuana, weighing over 600 grams.

"Attempts to smuggle contraband over the perimeter are strictly suppressed. Prison staff and additional forces are on continuous duty. This is the second attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs we've stopped this week," said Kuanysh Konzhanov, head of Institution No. 18 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Criminal Executive Committee.

Now, instead of a fresh start, the repeat offender faces a new sentence. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated against him for illegal drug trafficking on a particularly large scale. The "courier" is currently in a temporary detention center in the Shemonaikha district.

"Law and order are not just words—they are the principles that guide us every day. We will continue to strictly suppress any attempts to violate the established rules to guarantee public safety and create conditions for the rehabilitation of convicts, not for their further immersion into the criminal environment."
