There are 19 trading markets in Shymkent. The Roadmap for the modernization of markets, developed by the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, includes the markets "Avto-Nur", "Alash", "Ortalyk Kyrgy Bazar", "Samal", "Zhabyk Bazar", "Nazym Apa" and "Zhana Shahar". Half of the markets have already completed modernization work last year, and the markets "Avto-Nur", "Ortalyk Kyrgy Bazar", "Nazym Apa" and "Zhabyk Bazar" should complete them by the end of this year. Today, the Deputy Chairman of the Trade Committee of the MTI RK Yernur Zhautikbayev presented the progress of the market modernization to journalists.

At the moment, the work at the "Avto-Nur" market is 60% complete. Old buildings are being dismantled, the frame of the new pavilion is being erected, and interior finishing work is underway. The construction of three buildings has already been completed, the construction of another building and the reconstruction of the clothing pavilion are ongoing.

About 60% of the construction work at the Ortalyk Kyrgy Bazar market has also been completed. Interior decoration, roof installation and construction of a new pavilion to replace illegal retail outlets are underway. The jewelry, knitwear and vegetable pavilions have already been modernized, and an underground parking lot has been built. The clothing pavilions have yet to be completely renovated. The dismantling of retail outlets is underway at the Nazym Apa market. As for the Zhabyk Bazar, a draft design has been approved and construction work is in the active phase.

“The complete modernization of retail markets by the end of this year is a special priority of the Government. This is the path of law and order. The Ministry of Trade has fully prepared the necessary legislative framework. Now retail facilities must bring their activities into compliance with the law. This is, first of all, the social responsibility of business. From the beginning of next year, markets that have not undergone modernization will not be able to continue operating,” emphasized Deputy Chairman of the Trade Committee Yernur Zhautikbayev.

The Ministry of Trade plans to increase the share of the modern trade format to 79% by 2029 (currently this figure is 31%). Markets must also switch to a modern format - comply with fire safety requirements and sanitary and epidemiological standards, ensure transparency of tax revenues by accepting payment cards and be equipped with convenient parking for buyers.
