Following the talks, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov made statements to the media.
The President, first of all, thanked the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, for the invitation to pay an official visit to Bishkek, and said that every time he steps foot on the fraternal Kyrgyz land, he feels the warm welcome of his brother with a forked hat.
The Head of State announced that during the seventh session of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, a number of topical issues related to bilateral relations were discussed in detail and important agreements were reached that meet the interests of both countries.
– As fraternal states, we have come to the conclusion that we will resolve any issue in the spirit of mutual trust and alliance. We intend to further expand our mutually beneficial cooperation. I am confident that our political efforts will be sufficient for this. The esteemed President has just spoken about the results of today's negotiations. First of all, we are paying special attention to strengthening trade and economic ties. Kazakhstan is one of Kyrgyzstan's main partners in trade and investment. Last year, mutual trade turnover reached $1.7 billion. The indicators for the first half of this year are also not bad. We are interested in increasing trade volumes to $3 billion in the next 5 years. That is why a special Road Map was signed today. In general, there is a great opportunity to increase bilateral trade turnover. Next year, the Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex, which is being built on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border, will be launched, - said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to the President, both countries have great potential in the agricultural industry.
– The turnover in this sector is 25 percent of total trade. Therefore, it is very important to increase production volumes and open joint ventures. In this regard, the governments of both countries were instructed to adopt a Roadmap for the next two years, – said the Head of State.
