Prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kenya in the financial sector and information technology discussed in Nairobi

Nairobi, 20 August 2025 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kenya, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Office in Nairobi Barlybay Sadykov held meetings with the Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Daniel Mainda and the Chief Executive Officer of Konza Technopolis John Paul Okwiri.

During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Daniel Mainda was introduced to the activities of the Astana International Financial Centre, the achievements and plans of Kazakhstan for further development and cooperation in the field of finance.

In addition, during the conversation, the parties discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, plans for developing cooperation in the financial sector. The parties noted that cooperation in this area will help strengthen trade, economic and investment ties between Kazakhstan and Kenya, create effective partnerships that will promote innovation, attract investment and sustainable growth in both countries.

The issue of signing a bilateral document that will promote cooperation between the International Financial Centers of Astana and Nairobi was discussed. In addition, the Kenyan side expressed interest in participating in Astana Finance Days, which will be held on September 4-5, 2025, in Astana.

Daniel Mainda highly appreciated the activities of the Astana International Financial Center and expressed interest in establishing cooperation with the AIFC.

It creates a favourable environment for international investors, financial institutions and companies looking to expand their operations on the African continent. The NIFC aims to attract international financial players by providing them with a regulatory framework and infrastructure that meets international standards. The NIFC serves as an important gateway for investors seeking access to the diverse markets of East Africa. The NIFC offers various incentives to attract both local and international businesses. These include tax incentives, reduced operating costs and access to financing through local and international financial institutions.

During the meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenyan information technology center Konza Technopolis, Mr. John Paul Okwiri, the interlocutor was provided with information about the policy being carried out in our country on the introduction of information technology and AI, the implementation of the electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the activities of the Astana Hub.

Possible ways of bilateral cooperation in the field of information technology were also discussed, in particular with Astana Hub, signing a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of technology, as well as exchanging experience in the field of digital transformation, implementation of digital solutions.

The parties agreed to continue interaction on issues of mutual interest, as well as to organize expert meetings in the format of a video conference between the relevant structures of the two countries for a detailed discussion of joint measures to promote cooperation and develop a roadmap for its activation.
