On September 5, Kazakhstan celebrates the Day of Languages of the People, a holiday that symbolizes friendship, unity, and the richness of languages. A vivid example of these values is Private Vladimir Kopylov, serving in military unit 5571 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He fluently speaks five Turkic languages.

Although Vladimir is ethnically Russian, he not only speaks Kazakh perfectly but also communicates freely in Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Uyghur, and Tatar. He was drafted into the National Guard from Shymkent, and his passion for learning languages began in childhood. “My dream is to speak all Turkic languages and strengthen friendship among peoples,” the guardsman admits.

Moreover, Vladimir has also mastered rare Turkic languages such as Karachay, Karakalpak, and Nogai.

His linguistic skills also help him in service. While patrolling the streets of Almaty, he easily establishes communication with representatives of different nationalities. To a Kazakh, he speaks Kazakh; to an Uzbek, Uzbek; to a Uyghur, in their native language. His fellow servicemen admire how effortlessly he switches from one language to another.

Vladimir stands out not only for his knowledge of languages but also for his creative talents. He is one of the most active and disciplined soldiers in his company. If comrades need a haircut, they turn to him—Vladimir is a real master of his craft. In addition, he is a mobile photographer, capturing daily moments of army life and helping to build the image of his unit on social media.

Today, the National Guard is a true forge of talent. Units of the National Guard are home to versatile and proactive servicemen who, together with the police, ensure public order in 21 cities across the country.
