Vienna, 1-5 September 2025 – The second resumed sixteenth session of the Implementation Review Group of the UN Convention against Corruption took place at the UN Office in Vienna. The event brought together delegations from States Parties, representatives of international organizations, and anti-corruption experts from around the world.

The session focused on the effectiveness of the Implementation Review Mechanism, international cooperation, asset recovery measures, and the exchange of best practices.

As part of the event, the 19th meeting of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Asset Recovery was convened. Representing Kazakhstan, Baurzhan Kurmanov – official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan in Europe – participated as a panelist.

In his remarks, Mr. Kurmanov shared Kazakhstan’s successful experience in asset recovery, detailing high-profile financial investigations, the confiscation of illicit assets transferred abroad, and mechanisms to ensure transparency in the repurposing of recovered funds.

Kazakhstan’s approach to reinvesting recovered assets into social infrastructure projects – such as the construction and modernization of schools, hospitals, and other public facilities – drew particular interest from participants.
