Bukharbai Parmanov, Chairman of the Public Council under the Shymkent City Akimat:
A step taken in the interest of the people

I fully support Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's initiative to transition to a unicameral Parliament. I would like to note that this decision is based on the timing and logic of the development of political changes in the country. The President pays special attention not only to structural changes, but also to the substantive modernization of the system of power, where efficiency and transparency prevail.
The fact that the head of state approached this issue with the utmost responsibility, without haste and pressure, and with respect for the opinion of society is a clear manifestation of a true political style. The leader does not make firm demands, but rather makes suggestions, opens up discussions, and gives time to think.
In the case of Kazakhstan, a bicameral system sometimes slows down processes, requires excessive costs, and does not produce the results expected by society. Therefore, the idea of a unicameral Parliament is a long-standing issue. Simplifying the structure would bring the legislative branch closer to the people, remove unnecessary obstacles, and allow for the prompt adoption of important decisions.
The main thing is that the people have the final say. As our President noted, a reform of this level should be implemented only through a referendum. If society supports this initiative, Kazakhstan will have a compact, mobile and accountable legislative system. Such a Parliament will work not for formality, but for the benefit of the people.
