On September 2, large-scale works aimed at improving the banks of the Koshkar Ata River began in Shymkent. The project, which is being implemented by the Urban Environment Development Department, is not only an engineering initiative, but also an initiative of great environmental and cultural importance. The goal is to turn the riverbank into a clean, safe and modern recreation area

The Koshkar Ata River is an important recreational area for the city of Shymkent, where recreation, walking, and rest areas are being created for residents and city guests. In particular, the historical problem of the accumulation of various types of garbage, grass, natural and infrastructure waste on the banks of the river is a problem. This project aims to provide a final solution and continuous monitoring of these shortcomings.

The main areas of sanitation work within the framework of the improvement project are as follows: cleaning the riverbank from garbage and weeds, installing and constantly monitoring container areas, washing pedestrian paths and sweeping sidewalks, mobilizing utilities and volunteers, and promoting environmental culture among residents.

Compared to the experience of previous years, the importance and nature of the event are clearly visible. For example, in September 2024, as part of the republican environmental campaign “Clean Kazakhstan”, the Koshkar Ata River was cleaned up on a massive scale. At that time, thousands of residents, youth organizations and special equipment participated, several kilometers of territory were cleaned of garbage, irrigation systems were regulated. This was a one-time, short-term campaign, but it contributed to the formation of an environmental culture in society.

And this year's 2025 improvement work, unlike the campaign, is based on stability and consistency. This time, the initiative is not a one-day Saturday like in April, but a long-term project. Within the framework of the project, sanitary cleanliness is constantly monitored, and the quality of work is checked at each stage. In addition, elements such as planting greenery and installing lighting are added, turning the river into a real recreation area.

If we compare these two experiences, last year's campaign aimed to call for cleanliness through mass mobilization of the population, while this year's project involves systematic control by the authorities and qualitative infrastructural changes. The first is aimed at raising the environmental awareness of society, while the second is a permanent measure that will provide long-term results.

In general, the improvement of the Koshkar Ata River is an important step towards improving the quality of life of city residents. Only when everything is in harmony - sanitation, landscaping, lighting, pedestrian paths and infrastructure - will the city become a truly comfortable and modern center.

There are also positive comments from residents. For them, it is of great importance that the riverbank is clean and safe, and that it creates a comfortable environment for children and the elderly. Regular implementation of such works will strengthen the ecological culture and give the city a modern look.

In short, the Koshkar Ata River improvement project is a major initiative to maintain sanitary cleanliness and create a comfortable environment for residents. These works, unlike one-time actions of last year, are valuable for their consistency and long-term results.
