On September 5, 2025, an important initiative took place in Shymkent as part of the national environmental campaign "Clean Kazakhstan." On this day, volunteers—active youth of the city—gathered in the courtyards of multi-story buildings along Turkestan Street to contribute to the improvement and cleanliness of the environment.
Around 30 active young men and women took part in the event. Early in the morning, the young people went out into their yards with gloves and trash bags. They collected household waste, plastic bottles, paper, glass, and other types of trash. They also tidied up green areas, trimming dead tree branches and removing weeds and grass.
As a result, the courtyard was transformed: the area became cleaner, the trees and shrubs were tidier, and residents were able to enjoy a well-maintained area.
It's important to note that the residents of the buildings themselves also joined the campaign. Parents brought their children to set an example. Older people also enthusiastically supported the youth's initiative. This kind of collaborative work unites, fostering a sense of community and mutual responsibility for the environment in which we live.
The main goal of the campaign is not only to clean up the area but also to foster environmental awareness among the population . After all, keeping the city clean depends not only on public utilities but also on each and every citizen.
The organizers of the event emphasize that such events are a way to draw public attention to environmental issues and respect for nature. Young people play a key role here, as the country's future depends on their awareness.
One of the participants in the event, student Aidana, shared her impressions:
"Today we didn't just come out to pick up trash, but to show our peers that caring for nature starts with small things. If each of us cleans up after ourselves and keeps our yards and streets clean, the whole city will become more beautiful."
Active volunteer Yerzhan added:
"We want people to think: by throwing trash past the bin, they're harming not only the environment but also themselves. Cleanliness is health. Today, we've contributed to the common good, and that's very gratifying."
Local residents thanked the boys. Turkestanskaya Street resident and pensioner Aliya Apai said:
"It's really gratifying that young people are so engaged. Their enthusiasm gives me hope: if our children and grandchildren are as active, the country will be clean and beautiful. We were also happy to join in the cleanup."
Today, the environmental situation is one of humanity's global challenges. Air, soil, and water pollution directly impact human health. Cleanliness of courtyards and streets is not a trivial matter; it is the foundation of a healthy living environment.
Household waste left on the ground takes decades to decompose, releasing toxic substances and causing irreparable damage to the environment. Furthermore, landfills become a source of unpleasant odors and the spread of diseases and insects.
Therefore, "Clean Kazakhstan" is not a one-time campaign, but a broad social movement whose goal is to change people's attitudes toward nature, instilling the habit of maintaining cleanliness and caring for the environment on a daily basis.
The event's organizers noted that similar events will be held regularly in all districts of the city. In the near future, they plan to involve more educational institutions so that schoolchildren and students can become involved in environmental education from an early age.
In addition to cleanups, plans include environmental lectures, seminars, and flash mobs to help young people better understand the threats posed by environmental pollution and how everyone can combat it.
Volunteers also plan to create special groups to monitor the condition of courtyards and streets so that cleanliness maintenance is not limited to just one day, but becomes an ongoing effort.
The "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign, which took place on September 5, 2025 , became a shining example of how young people can inspire an entire neighborhood by their example. Thanks to the efforts of 30 activists, the courtyards along Turkestan Street were transformed, and residents received a reminder: cleanliness is in our hands.
This day proved that there's no need to wait for large-scale government programs or massive investments. Initiative and unity are enough to change the environment for the better. Every person, starting in their own backyard, can contribute to the cleanliness and well-being of the city.
A clean courtyard means comfort for residents. A clean city means health and comfort for everyone. A clean country means a future for our children.
This is why the "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign is so important. It fosters a culture of cleanliness, unites people, and teaches young people the most important thing: caring for nature means caring for yourself and the future.
