Shymkent is one of the largest and most dynamically developing cities in Kazakhstan. However, the city's rapid growth, large population, and dense development pose unique challenges for public utilities. Maintaining sanitary conditions is one of them. After all, the comfort, health, and well-being of residents depend on this. In the Karatau district , the state-owned public utility "Karatau" is responsible for maintaining order and public amenities, carrying out extensive cleanup work daily.
The institution's main mission is to ensure sanitary cleanliness in the neighborhood and create a comfortable and safe environment for residents. Its employees perform daily garbage collection, street and sidewalk cleaning, bus stop cleaning, neighborhood maintenance, landscaping, and green space maintenance.
To carry out these tasks, Karatau State University maintains dozens of specialized vehicles, including garbage trucks, watering trucks, and cargo trucks. Furthermore, the work of a team of workers and janitors is the invisible but crucial work that keeps the district well-maintained.
The workday begins early in the morning, at 6:00 AM. The main streets, highways, and crowded areas are cleaned first. Specialists collect trash, empty trash cans, and wash sidewalks and public transportation stops.
In the afternoon, special attention is paid to the courtyards of apartment buildings. Household waste is collected, playgrounds are tidied up, and benches, sports facilities, and hardscape are cleaned. The condition of trash containers is also checked: if necessary, they are replaced or additional ones are installed.
Sanitary cleanliness is important not only for aesthetic reasons but also for environmental safety. Untimely garbage removal creates unpleasant odors, pollutes the soil and air, and attracts insects and rodents. All of this directly impacts human health.
This is why the systematic operation of public utilities plays a key role. According to environmentalists, timely waste collection and removal helps reduce environmental pollution and improve sanitary conditions in the area.
However, the city's cleanliness depends not only on public utilities but also on the residents themselves. Unfortunately, there are still instances of trash being thrown past trash bins, onto lawns, or near building entrances.
To address this situation, Karatau KSU staff regularly conduct awareness-raising sessions with residents. In some courtyards, informational posters about the need to sort waste are hung, and leaflets are distributed. Particular attention is paid to cultivating good manners in children and adolescents—it's from them that the habit of keeping their surroundings tidy begins.
The company's management aims not only to maintain the current level of sanitation but also to improve the system. In the near future, they plan to purchase additional specialized equipment, increase the number of waste containers, and implement new cleaning methods.
A separate focus is waste separation. Residents will eventually be able to dispose of plastic, paper, glass, and organic waste in separate containers. This will allow some waste to be recycled, reduce landfill pressure, and improve the city's environmental situation.
Residents of the Karatau district note that the daily work of public utilities is noticeable.
"Our courtyard has become much cleaner. The trash cans are emptied regularly, and the playground is always in good order. Of course, a lot depends on the residents themselves, but we see and appreciate their work," says local resident Aigul.
Pensioner Nurlan Zhaksylykov adds: "These people's work often goes unnoticed, but it's thanks to them that we live in a well-maintained neighborhood. They hit the streets before everyone else and work until late in the evening. I'd like every city resident to appreciate this work and help keep things clean . "
Maintaining sanitary conditions is of strategic importance for a metropolis. Clean streets, well-maintained courtyards, and landscaped recreation areas create a positive image of the city, enhance its tourist appeal, and impact the overall quality of life for residents.
The work of Karatau KSU is part of a broader program to improve Shymkent. City authorities are placing special emphasis on infrastructure development, landscaping, and creating a comfortable urban environment.
The Karatau Municipal State Institution carries out a huge amount of work daily, ensuring cleanliness and order in the district. This isn't just garbage collection, but a whole range of activities aimed at improving the environment, preserving public health, and creating a comfortable environment.
However, it's important to remember: cleanliness begins with everyone. If residents take good care of their yards and streets, the efforts of utility workers will be even more effective.
Shymkent is moving toward becoming a truly green, modern, and welcoming metropolis. And the contribution of Karatau KSU staff to this process cannot be overstated.
